About Carolyn Emerson

Carolyn Emerson Encouraged in my youth by my family and one particularly memorable teacher, I have been a lifelong painter and graphic artist. During my working career, I formed a graphic arts business in the Hartford area, creating murals in area schools, hospitals, and businesses. I worked in an art capacity in a motivational program in the West Hartford School system until moving to central Virginia, where I taught art in the Orange County Public School system for a number of years. I also coached adult painters in the medium of watercolor at the Belmont Center in Spotsylvania County. Other artful endeavors over the years have included costume and set design for various theater groups.

Initially favoring oils, in the last thirty years, I have focused primarily on the challenges of watercolor, entering juried shows in Maine, Virginia, and Connecticut, achieving recognition with competitive awards in those states. I have continued to increase my understanding and application of water media through frequent workshops with such notable watercolorists as Charles Reid, Janet Rogers, and numerous local artists in assorted mediums. Just recently I have begun to explore the world of pastel.

Currently I teach classes in my South Windsor studio and conduct workshops in Connecticut. My work covers a broad range of subjects including land and seascapes, portraiture, and still life. I am available for commissioned work. My work can be seen at: carolyn-emerson.pixels.com/art

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

To lose all sense of time and surroundings in the creation process must be among life’s greatest pleasures. Ultimate satisfaction is found every bit as much in the ‘doing’ as in the ‘done.’
